From an idea by
general_radix, described here and here, including what blood magic would entail: using one's own blood cristalysed as blades, claws, darts and such makeshift weapons.
And I started to muse about Alex in all this... at the moment I'm around the idea of him being a werebear on whom Strauss performed strange experiments/rituals, managed to escape, and then joined the "let's punch Strauss in the face" club, population: many.
Heed the warning! As you might infer from the above there's a bit of gore involved.

The knife Alex is using is exactly that knife, and he needs it to kickstart the process.
Strauss here is a vampire hunter that went to the evil side, found an obscure grimoire, and decided to practise some of the arcane spell within. First capturing vampires (including Durandal) to try to get the Blood Magic from them, with the aim to forge a personal army of werebeings as brainwashed killers. Alex was supposed to be one of them.

(Why a bear? I think it suits Alex better than a wolf, and I can draw bears better than wolves anyway.)
Strauss' experiments on him managed to block the voluntary transformation, leaving him with only the "once every full moon, he wants it or not" and a blood magic botched in a way he couldn't reabsorb the blood he spends -- the only reason he's still alive is because being a weresomething make him sturdier than a standard human and can take a greater blood loss.
Alex had a lot of his memories wiped, but at least the brainwashing failed. His aim now is trying to get back at what he was before and stay out of the spotlights, while wandering around working as a mechanic. Then Alex might meet Durandal and Vince, and then Durandal might fill in the blanks on the urge Alex has about wanting to punch a guy named Bernhard Strauss in the face.
Of course whatever he tries he will find himself just right in the middle of the Romus/Remus feud, and often in situations where using supernatural weaponry is a must!

hehehe :D

Friday, 15 February 2019 22:01 (UTC)Man, having to manually slice yourself up to use blood arts does not sound fun. DX Maybe the only upside is if, say, a much stronger vampire force-dismissed Alex's weapon, it might not affect him as much as it would Vince...
(Hm...maybe the rest of the second-gen battleroids became actual werewolves? Except June, who I imagine would become a were-Flemish giant rabbit. XD They kept their free will, too, which hopefully discouraged Strauss from trying to make more...)

Sunday, 17 February 2019 11:02 (UTC)I thought at this as a vague equivalent of grenade climbing||jumping...
From the manual of the Unhetical Experimenter: brainwash first, superpowers second! Or maybe we can handwave this as the fact that fancy superpowers is something that usually a person might like to get, so the various spells keep; while brainwashing goes directly against willpower, so it's more at risk to fail...
